Common Questions

  • Check out the amazon links below. These are our favorites from trial and error. Are there better products? Sure.. The rabbit trail is endless if you’d like to explore it but these are our simplified solutions accounting for “bang for your buck”.

  • Yes! BUT it is imperative that it is a “touchless” wash. The brushes that are in a typical tunnel wash are dirty and WILL scratch your paint. Nothing (including a live person working there) should be touching your paint if you are using a drive through wash. Letting a worker pre-wash or dry your vehicle after a touchless wash will just negate the point of the “touchless” wash and rub dirt into your paint. So, if there is a live staff, kindly opt-out of having them touch the car in any way.

Think of this solution as dusting the vehicle off to hold you over until your next proper wash. The touchless option will not be even close to perfect and will leave water dripping but this is the trade off for the lower cost option. The best system if you would like to use tunnel washes to hold you over is to have a proper wash done every 4-6 washes.

  • Heres our take on the best yet most simplified wash process:

    1. Anything you touch your paint with should be lubricated and the material should always be clean and plush microfiber. No exceptions!

    2. Rinse the paint before washing to remove a majority of the loose dirt.

    3. Never scrub your paint. If there is something that doesn’t come off with light pressure during a wash (i.e. bugs, sap), then it is better to use a specialty cleaner to remove it.

    4. Use two buckets during a wash: one for clean water and one for soapy water. Simply dip your wash mitt in the soapy water, wash a panel or two and then dip the mitt in the clean water quickly and agitate to dispense any dirty from the mitt into the water bucket. This keeps your car wash soap clean. Depending on how dirty the car is, you can do a half of the vehicle or just one panel before “rinsing” the mitt in the water bucket.

    5. Its much cheaper to buy new towels than it is to have the car re-polished (used towels tend to get dirt in them) so we recommend setting the microfiber rags, drying towel and wash mitts to the subscribe and save setting and throwing the old ones away automatically when the new ones come (easy way to remember to cycle them).

We will be coming out with videos on this soon!

  • Our standards for a professional wash provider are:

    1. Maintenance products don’t matter much, just technique.

    2. They need to be familiar with the rules outlined in the ”how to wash my car correctly” info above.

    3. Deionized (filtered) water is a big plus as it eliminates the risk of water spots. We personally never touch a car with non-filtered water.

    4. Good reviews are a must!

Recommended Maintenance Products

The Rag Company Creature Edgeless Towels

These are your all purpose towels to use when touching the paint. We like the light grey ones so you can see any dirt in them and know to toss them.

The Rag Company Microfiber Drying Towel

This thing is super absorbent. You’ll love it. Keep it in a bag or container in-between uses to keep it clean.

3D Car Wash Soap pH Balanced

Wash soap is less about what is in it and more about what is not in it. This soap is PH neutral and no additives.

Black Spray Bottles

To house your quick detailer. Feel free to use a different bottle.. we just like the looks of these especially if you want to keep one exposed in your vehicle’s door pocket.

Meguiar's “Last Touch” Spray Detailer

All-in-one product for wheels, paint, glass & interior. Use it sparingly on the paint. Your ceramic coating will want to repel the product and it will smear easily if you use too much.

Microfiber Wash Mitts

Better to buy cheap and replace often. We use a new mitt on every vehicle.. but were kinda crazy..

Meguiar’s Bug Remover

Use this first during a wash (without letting it dry) and let it loosen the bugs for you.

Water-Based Tire Dressing

Water based dressing won’t build up and gunk your tires up over time, hydrates the rubber to prevent cracking and gives your tires a “healthy” sheen.
